Stop HIV Iowa is an initiative of Iowa’s HIV and Hepatitis Community Planning Group (CPG), in partnership with the Bureau of HIV, STI and Hepatitis at the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.

Our vision

Our vision is to make Iowa a place where:

  • Transmission of HIV is prevented
  • Everyone knows their HIV status
  • Everyone living with HIV is valued and respected, has high-quality care and treatment and lives free from stigma and discrimination

All Iowans can help make this vision a reality.

How you can help

As individuals, we can:

  • Choose HIV prevention options that work for us
  • Get tested for HIV and encourage others to also get tested
  • Learn the facts about HIV to fight myths and stigma

As communities, we can:

  • Prioritize education and awareness about HIV
  • Support and advocate for people living with HIV
  • Share feedback and experiences to improve HIV prevention and care services

As healthcare providers, we can:

  • Build confidence talking to patients about HIV
  • Prioritize screening for HIV and linkage to HIV treatment as part of routine healthcare practice
  • Advocate for high quality HIV care and provider education throughout health care systems
