Statewide HIV prevention and care services for Iowa residents are coordinated by the Bureau of HIV, STI and Hepatitis, within the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (Iowa HHS). 

Programming for HIV consists of three components: 

  • HIV Prevention
  • HIV Care & Support Services
  • HIV Data & Disease Reporting

The Bureau of HIV, STI and Hepatitis also supports programming to address other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as viral hepatitis

  • Activities under the STI program include: testing, treatment, data and disease reporting and contact tracing (partner services) for individuals diagnosed with STIs, including HIV. 
  • Activities under the viral hepatitis program include: testing, treatment and data and disease reporting.
